Cai
Lun was an eunuch during the reigns of Han Hedi. He was a
man of talents, insight and creativity. He was responsible
for all of the manufacturing of machines in the imperial court.
Things created by him were of good quality and exquisite.
Hedi ordered him to look over the production of paper. After
research and many experiments, Cai Lun was able to produce
economic paper that was used in books at that time. After
his death, people named this paper -- the paper of Cailun
-- in an attempt to commemorate his achievements
Zhang
Heng (AD 78-139)
Zhang
Heng, known as Ping Zi, was a wellknown scientist and litterateur
during the East Han Dynasty. when he was young, he was curious
and eager to learn new things. Later he travelled to the ancient
capital Chang'an, and Luo Yang to discuss matters and exchange
opinions with famous scholars. At the age of 37, at the imperial
court, he was responsible for observing astronomical phenomena,
managing national documents and editing national history.
He was the author of the famous book on astronomy -- Lin Xian,
he invented World's first seismograph, made of bronze and
the first machine that was able to detect the direction of
earthquakes. His earthquake detector was earlier than the
one made by Europeans by 1700 years. He also gave the world's
earliest scientific explanation of moon eclipse. Zhang Heng
was a "clean" officer, did not accept any bribes
and did not associate with any evil person. Zhang Heng was
a man of high intellect. As an officer, he was one the of
rare "clean" officers in Chinese history.

Zu
Chongzhi(430-501) was a Chinese mathematician and astronomer.
In astronomy, he arrived at the precise time of the solstice
by measuring the sun's shadow at noon on days around the solstice.
He gave the rational approximation 355/113 to p which is
correct to 6 decimal places.
He also proved that 3.1415926 < §± < 3.1415927
