The guest rooms in hotel are divided into two kinds:
room (kefang) and suite (taojian)
Room:
Contains shower / bath and lavatory within the
room. The rate is inexpensive.
1) Single Room - A room designed for only one person.
2) Double Room - A room containing one large double
bed.
3) Twin Room - A room with two single beds.
4) Triple Room - A room containing a double bed
and a single bed.
Suite:
Normally located at the higher floor, suite is
subdivided into several types as followings:
1) Standard Suite: Also named junior suite or family
suite. It contains a drawing room, a bedroom a shower
/ bath, a lavatory and comfortable furniture.
2) Executive Suite: It normally contains a spacious
bedroom with two king-size beds, an elegant living,
a large bathroom with additional facilities such
as a whirlpool bath and a guest toilet. Its area
is two times of that of standard suite.
3) Deluxe Suite: Besides those facilities mentioned
in the standard suit, each deluxe suite also has
a kitchenette, a dining room, a study, a lounge
room and a veranda.
4) President Suite: It normally consists of seven
or eight rooms which including: president bedroom,
first-lady bedroom, a shower / bath, two lavatories,
a parlor, boardroom, guardhouse, study, kitchenette,
a dining room and a room for retinue. Normally it
is the best room in a hotel.
Disabled Guest Room: A kind of room
designed for the disabled people.
Connecting Room: Connecting room
is made up of two or more independent adjoining rooms,
which are connected each other by a door.

Both ordinary rooms and suites are classified into

Explanation
of Other Terms:
Single Room Supplement - Some premises do not have
rooms designed for just one person. If a lone guest
wishes to occupy a double / twin room a supplement
will be charged by the owner to reduce the loss in
revenue resulting from having one guest instead of
two.
Service Charge - A charge levied by some larger establishments
to ensure their staff is adequately rewarded for their
work.
Room only - The majority of room rates quoted in
China are inclusive of breakfast, rooms rented on
a room only basis will not include breakfast in the
price although this is generally available on the
premises for an additional cost.
Half-Board - In addition to breakfast an evening
meal may be offered to guests staying in one establishment
for one week or more.
EP (European Plan):
Only accommodation offered, without any meals.
CP (Continental Plan):
Offer accommodation and light breakfast consisting
only of coffee and rolls with jam.
AP (American Plan):
Offer accommodation as well as American breakfast,
lunch and supper.
MAP (Modified American
Plan): Offer accommodation as well as American breakfast
and supper.
DP (Demi-Pension):
Offer accommodation as well as European breakfast
and lunch/supper.
FP (Full-Pension):
Offer accommodation as well as European breakfast,
lunch and supper.
What are the hotels in China
like?
By the end of 2000, there are totally 6029 hotels
in China, among which 2368 are listed as three-star
or above, according to international standards. Specifically,
117 are five-star and 352 four-star. Most of the hotels
have comfortable and convenient facilities.
Service offered by hotels above three-star include:
- All rooms are air-conditioned, equipped with
a colour TV, telephone, refrigerator and a double
curtain
- All rooms are equipped with a private bathroom,
disinfected towels, glasses, soap, bath cream, shampoo,
toilet paper, tooth brushes and razors are available
- Uniforms are used by all employees to indicate
their respective job and position
- The bedroom consists of one or two beds, a wardrobe,
and a dressing table, with ceiling lamps, bedside
lamps and a button for room service
- All rooms offer room service meals around-the-clock
- Accessorial facilities include Chinese and Western
restaurants, coffee shops, bars, banqueting halls,
conference rooms, multi-function halls, ballrooms,
swimming pools, bowling alleys, beauty parlors,
massage rooms, saunas, clinics and ticket booking
offices
- Sometimes, shopping malls, banks and post offices
are also available
Are there English-speaking people
work at the hotel?
Yes, hotels dealing with the foreign guests all have
an English-speaking or Japanese-speaking working staff.
If you need help, you can ask for the reception.
How do foreigners make reservation
at Chinese hotels?
All Chinese hotels open to foreigners receive reservations
around-the-clock. You can make reservations via telephone
at home.
- Telephone the selected hotel and provide your
information such as name, gender, room category
you want, check-in and checkout time and etc.
- Normally, within 24 hours, the hotel will respond
for your confirmation through telephone, fax, telex,
telegram or letter.
- Any change on your schedule should be notified
to the hotel so that cancellation or change could
be made duly to avoid a processing fee.
Reservation also could be made via other means such
as fax, telex, telegram or letters.

What time can I check-in &
checkout the hotel?
Check-in time: from 14: 00 p.m. (noon)
Checkout time: before 12.00 p.m. (noon)
Notes: The check-in and checkout time are subject
to the management of the specific hotel. It is advisable
to contact the hotel if you need earlier check-in
or later checkout. Earlier Check-in or later Checkout
sometimes results in an extra charge.
What are the procedures of check-in
and checkout?
When check in, you have to present your passport
and fill in a form. The hotels normally require a
small amount of deposit, or they need you to pay for
the room in advance.
Check out always take some time as the hotel will
check the room and perform a few administrative tasks.
When check out, the hotel will deduct the deposit
you have paid from the total rate or return it to
you.
Are the hotel rates per person,
or per room?
The hotel rates we offered are per room, not per
person.
What about child rate in hotel?
- There is normally no charge for a child under 12
years old sharing a room with parents. But some hotels
will charge the extra bed.
- For baby under 2 years old, baby cot will be provided
by the hotel free of charge.
- Normally Children under 2 years old are free from
the breakfast fare and Children under 12 years pay
50 percent for the breakfast.
Different hotels may vary in their respective regulations.
If there are some surcharges required, please pay
it on the spot.
What is single room supplement?

Is the tap water in Chinese hotels
drinkable?
Never risk your health to drink the tap water although
some luxury hotels claim that the tap water in their
hotel is purified and safe to drink.
Usually all rooms in the hotels are equipped with
thermos bottles. Hot boiled water will be offered
by the hotel free of charge. Call the front desks
if you need.
Can I confirm a non-smoking hotel
room?
Yes, you can. We will book a room for you based on
your requirements.
How do Chinese hotels keep tourists
in touch with the outside world?
All the larger hotels in China offer a choice of
numerous TV channels, including several of the popular
international ones. Popular English or Japanese newspaper
and magazine, such as International Herald Tribune,
The Times, Asian Wall Street Journal and Far Eastern
Economic Review, can be obtained at the front desk
of hotel free of charge. International and domestic
long-distance call can be made directly in your room
and services such as send and receive a telegram,
telex or fax are available in the commercial center.
Is Internet access available
in hotels in China?
Yes, most major hotels provide convenient Internet
service with reasonable fees.
